It’s almost that time of year again! The 2025 AORN Expo is happening April 5th–8th in the historic city of Boston, Massachusetts. But let me tell you—Expo is not just another conference. It’s an immersive, multi-day event packed with education, networking, and non-stop activity from sunrise to sunset. It’s an experience like no other!
While you're coworkers may think you’re heading off on a vacation, Expo is so much more than just a few days off from this hospital. I learned this firsthand when I attended my first AORN Expo in 2023 in San Antonio. I figured it would be "just another conference", where I’d attend a few talks and be back at my hotel by 4 pm each day. Wow! I was so wrong... but in a good way! Activities and events run from early in the morning until late at night, and the schedule is packed with educational sessions, hands-on learning opportunities, social events, parties, and don't forget - the incredible Expo Hall where you can learn all about the latest and greatest in perioperative care from the many vendor partners who are present.
Now, as I prepare for my third Expo, I want to share 10 tips to help you make the most of this incredible event.
1. Download the AORN Expo 2025 App
The official Expo app will be available before Expo begins, and trust me, it will be your best friend. It provides a detailed schedule of events, talks, and activities by the hour. You can ‘star’ your favorite sessions, create a personalized agenda, and even sync it with your phone’s calendar for reminders. Check the app frequently—new events are often added throughout the day! The app will be available for both Apple and Android users.
2. Look for the AORN Ambassadors
These enthusiastic volunteers are your go-to resource for all things Expo. They’re knowledgeable, eager to help, and easy to spot with their sashes and gear. Don’t hesitate to approach them with any questions—they love interacting with attendees!
3. Don’t Forget to Vote!
If you’re an AORN member, you have the opportunity and privilege to vote for the 2025-2026 National Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. Throughout Expo, you’ll have opportunities to meet the candidates and learn about their vision for AORN. Take the time to engage with them and make an informed decision.
The Candidate Meet and Greet will be held on Sunday, April 6th, from 12-1:15 pm (EST). This is a great opportunity for you to meet the candidates in person, ask them questions, and decide who you want to vote for. You can also read about the candidates and vote online anytime by clicking here.

4. Join a Focus Group
Ever used a piece of OR equipment and thought, There has to be a better way? Now’s your chance to share your insights! Many companies at Expo are eager to hear from perioperative nurses who use their products daily. Focus groups give you the opportunity to provide feedback on medical devices, packaging, and ease of use—so make your voice heard! Be on the lookout for emails sharing information about available focus groups, and sign up if you're interested!
5. Volunteer at Expo
Even at a major conference like this, there are still plenty of ways to give back. If you’re picking up your packet at the convention center on Friday, check out the volunteer booth. In the past, attendees have assembled care packages for the homeless and the elderly. You can also sign up for the blood drive happening throughout Expo—every donation makes a difference!
6. Pack Snacks & Stay Hydrated
The mom in me is coming out with this tip (and I don’t even have kids!). Days at Expo are long—you might leave your hotel at 7–8 am and not return until 6–7 pm or later... Pack some protein bars or your favorite grab-and-go snacks (because, let’s be honest, OR nurses are pros at eating on the run!). Bring a refillable water bottle, too—there will be refill stations throughout the venue, especially on the main floor and in the Expo Hall.
7. Dress for Comfort
Expo means lots of walking! Think of it as a shift in the OR—comfortable shoes are a must. Also, layer up! Convention centers can be chilly, but after a bit of walking, you might warm up quickly. And remember, Boston in April can still be cold, especially near the water.
8. Bring a Good Backpack or Bag
Since you’ll be on the go all day, a sturdy backpack or bag is essential. You’ll collect materials, handouts, and—if you’re following my earlier advice—you'll have snacks and water with you.
9. Consider a Digital Business Card
If you’ve been to conferences before, you know how many people that you will meet and connect with. Having a business card is a MUST. It's an easy way to provide contact information, and it also helps you remember all of the people that you met along the way. Digital cards are nice because all of the info is on your phone, and you don't have to carry around anything extra. But whether you choose paper or digital, make sure you have a business card!
10. Check Your Emails
If you’re registered for Expo, you’re already receiving important emails. These messages contain vital details about event logistics, speaker updates, and last-minute schedule changes. Be sure to read them and stay informed!

I hope you find these tips and tricks helpful as you prepare for Expo 2025! I’m beyond excited for everything that’s in store—but most of all, I can’t wait to meet you! If you see me in Boston, please don’t hesitate to say hi. I love meeting fellow OR professionals and sharing this amazing experience together.
See you in Boston!
Lindsey
